IDAC Is Back on July 16! Mark Your Calendars!
|
Greetings,
I hope you're enjoying the start of summer and finding time to recharge as the season gets underway.
We closed out May with two important gatherings for the immunization and public health community: the National Adult and Influenza Immunization Summit (NAIIS) and the Joint Public Health Informatics Task Force (JPHIT) meetings. At NAIIS, conversations focused on confronting emerging barriers and risks impacting immunization efforts, while JPHIT brought together partners to discuss governance, strategy, and current federal comment opportunities. AIRA representatives also took part in JPHIT meetings with CMS and ONC to advocate for expanded opportunities for public health input and engagement.
June has already been a busy and exciting month for AIRA. We kicked off Board of Directors nominations and are thrilled with the strong pool of applicants. In July, members will have the opportunity to cast their vote for several director positions.
From June 9–11, AIRA also participated in the Public Health Informatics Institute (PHII) IIS Leadership Workshop. This opportunity brought together 15 of our newest IIS leaders representing 14 jurisdictions for an onsite training session hosted by PHII and sponsored by CDC. June 8–10, I attended the National HPV & Cervical Cancer Roundtables (HPVRT), a national meeting hosted by the American Cancer Society (ACS). The ACS HPVRT is a coalition of member organizations working to raise HPV vaccination rates and prevent HPV cancers in the United States. On the anniversary of the HPV vaccine turning 20 years old, it was incredibly inspiring to listen to the passion survivors and caregivers have in moving toward eliminating cervical cancers and a great reminder of the power of prevention.
As we move through the month, I encourage you to take advantage of the learning and networking opportunities ahead. Be sure to mark your calendars for the June Discovery Session, “Get Ready for IISSAR – Q2 2026,” on June 22 at 4 p.m. ET. Lauren Shaw from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will provide an overview of the 2026 Q2 Immunization Information Systems Semi-Annual Report (IISSAR) and help participants prepare for reporting.
Then, on June 30, AIRA will host an Envision webinar, “Modernization in Action: Turning Strategy into Public Health Impact.” During this session, attendees will explore how organizations can successfully transform strategic planning into meaningful and measurable public health outcomes.
|
Looking ahead:
- June Discovery Session will be held on June 22 at 4 p.m. ET
- On June 30, from 1 to 2 p.m. ET, AIRA is hosting an Envision webinar
- ACIP is scheduled to take place June 24–26
- NAPHSIS Annual Meeting will be held June 29–July 1
As we prepare to welcome July, I hope you find opportunities to connect with colleagues, celebrate progress, and enjoy some well deserved summer time with family and friends.
Rebecca Coyle, MSEd Executive Director

A Message from Our Partners at NIST: Health IT Program Sunsetting | Transition Call
|
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) will be hosting a second community call to discuss the transition on June 24, 2026, at 1 p.m. ET. As mentioned during the first community meeting, the NIST Health IT tools are transitioning to NIST AWS. Please note that this hosting migration is separate from the program’s overall sunsetting and transition process. A few tools were successfully moved last week, and we expect the remaining tools to be migrated over the next two weeks. More information will be provided on the Google Group for a given tool.

Call for Participants: Join the Patient Matching – Extract Pilot #3
|
AIRA has built the Patient Matching – Extract pilot to advance Measurement and Improvement (M&I) data quality activities across member jurisdictions. While traditional M&I patient matching evaluates real-time HL7 transactions using synthetic test records, the Extract method provides a complementary diagnostic view by analyzing production data for duplicate patient records.
What Your Jurisdiction Receives
- Actionable List of Possible Duplicates: A list of potential duplicate record pairs to review and merge, providing an immediate mechanism to resolve duplicate patient records
- Placeholder/Bad First Names Report: A compiled list of invalid entries or placeholder data within the first name field to implement targeted data quality corrections
- Invalid/Bad Phone Numbers Report: An isolated list of improperly formatted or “bad” phone numbers to quickly improve contact information integrity
Participation Expectations and Timeline
The pilot will run from July 13 through July 31. Participating jurisdictions are expected to complete the following activities during this period:
- Attend the project kick-off call
- Perform the production data extract, run the command line tool locally, and upload the resulting aggregate data to qDAR
- Office hours will be provided to assist with the extraction and tool execution process
- Manually review assigned duplicate pairs and provide finalized feedback templates to AIRA
- Attend the final pilot wrap-up call and complete a brief post-pilot evaluation questionnaire
Interested in participating or have questions? Please contact Shelby Sandstrom at [email protected].

Coming Soon: Community Review of AIRA’s Updated Security Guidance
|
AIRA will release an updated version of Security Guidance Considerations for Immunization Information Systems (IIS) for community review in early July. The updated guidance incorporates input from subject matter experts, an advisory panel representing the IIS and public health communities, and current cybersecurity best practices.
To ensure the guidance is practical, relevant, and responsive to the needs of today's IIS environments, AIRA will be seeking feedback from IIS jurisdictions, implementers, public health partners, and other IIS community members. Community input will play an important role in shaping the final document.
To participate in the upcoming review or to learn more, contact Tesha Lucas at [email protected].
